Rwanda Gospel

Rwanda Gospel is a Rwandan gospel music/ Christian Entertainment website aimed at broadcasting and promoting gospel music and Christian entertainment and values. Rwanda Gospel is a subsidiary of Moriah Entertainment Group. You can reach us via email or phone.

BORN AND RAISED IN RWANDA, Patrick Cyuzuzo lost his father at an early age. As if that wasn't enough, when he was only five, his mother abandoned him for reasons he hasn't been able to understand up to now.

His maternal aunt picked him up and was raised in Huye District. He narrated that life wasn't as easy as it would have been having he had his own biological parents, but he is, nonetheless, thankful for finding a place he could call home.

At the age of seven, he joined a kids' choir in Sunday school and started singing in the year 2009. This is where his singing talent was nurtured, having been taught more about singing, dancing, and music in general. In 2016, the 21-year-old embarked on a solo music career, singing gospel and inspirational/humanitarian music. Unfortunately, his music flopped, and he lost hope of ever singing again.

In 2019, when he met some friends who happened to be his music fans, they expressed their concern about him being out of music since, for them, they used to enjoy his music. "It was like a wake-up call knowing that there were a few people who were moved by my music, and to continue inspiring them, I decided to make a comeback in the music industry," he added.

He later decided to re-brand to 'SEE' as well as record new music and has since yielded fruit. He believes his future is still bright and hopes to fulfill his life dreams.

Inspiration in music

Today, SEE can be described as a gospel and inspirational music artist (Independent) bringing music of different genres such as R&B and electronic dance music.

His love for music, he said, started way earlier, and it has become part of him. The biggest reason why he decided to do the gospel is to spread the message of hope to the hopeless, all together for transformation.

"I need to give the youth purpose of listening to gospel music by delivering it in their best-preferred genres and strategies, and also let them know that it’s not about how we look or dress up but about the heart and focus," he said.

Moving forward, his aspiration is to work with both established and upcoming artists to take the Rwandan music industry to the next level and to give it their best.

He also noted that the message from their songs will just go everywhere and the following generation will come in an industry that was cleared early.

Earlier this year, he released an EP (extended play) titled “UnBlur”, which means something clear and bright, as a sign of hope.

The EP has songs such as “Good for U, Worry not, On My Side, and Hear it Roar”.

"The main theme of this EP is “Hope and Victory”. I tried to make the songs relatable to all Christians and even those who are not because my objective is to reach out to all people," he said.

The EP is available on YouTube Music, Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music, Pandora, Tidal, Deezer, 7digital, Amazon music, and many more. It’s accessible worldwide.

Rwandan gospel singer and songwriter Isreal Mbonyi through his social media handles called out content creators who spread false information for the sake of views following a false report by Faster TV show, a YouTube channel, on June 6, that he had died.

Israel Mbonyicyambu, the singer told The New Times at the time the video came out, his phone was off and he had no idea what was really going on. He woke up yesterday morning to his younger brother and one of his colleagues who came to find out if what they saw was true since his phone was off.

Upon seeing them he thought something was wrong had happened to his family, because that was unusual but he ended up getting a different story.
He added that it was not the first time he was seeing such fake news about him, only this time around was different because nowadays people do believe a lot in what they see on social media.
Shockingly, people had also started posting his picture with the caption Rest in Peace, and that was when he started taking it seriously, and communicate through social media that it was a rumor.

His advice towards his fans and people in general is that they don’t have to believe in everything they see on social media, adding that he has management that is in charge of communicating to the public in case anything happens.

People’s view on this

People should stop doing that. For the celebrities, not just Mbonyi, they have to keep their people updated in such situations.”

Innocent Ndamukunda, a singer in gospel choir, Alarm Ministries, told The New Times that such false news has been around for so long, but people just ignored it.

The extent of “killing alive people,” should however, be a wake-up call to related institutions to put more effort into such cases.

“My advice to the owners behind such channels is that they should learn from their fellow YouTubers who report informative and constructive news and try to be productive,” he said.

Florent Ndutiye, the Program Manager at BTV also added: “this is very disappointing and it is even giving a bad reputation to the media in general. If today someone can get up and choose to report such news for the sake of views instead of doing something which might be helpful to society, it is a shame and unprofessional.

Immaculee Ingabire  also reacted to this via her tweet saying “Am so sorry this not looking for views it is a crime.”

What the law says about this

Article 39 in the constitution about Publication of Rumors says any person who, knowingly and through a computer or a computer system, publishes rumors that may incite fear, insurrection, or violence amongst the population or that may make a person lose their credibility, commits an offense.

And upon conviction, he/she is liable to imprisonment for a term of not less than three years and no more than five years and a fine of not less than one million Rwandan francs and not more than three million Rwandan francs.

Thierry Murangira, the Spokesperson of  Rwanda Investigation Bureau, told this paper that “the publication rumors in 2020 included 14 cases while the 2021 cases till June,7 are eight so far, an impression that people are not aware that it is an offense to publish rumors that can cause someone loses their credibility.”

“People are required to use social media platforms within the parameters set by law. This offense has serious punishment of 3-5 years of imprisonment, which cannot be despised,” he adds.

Aime Uwimana's songTURIRIMBIRE UWITEKA (‘Sing to the Lord’) is not new because it has been out for 21 years - written in 1997 and released officially for the first time in 2000 - but always fresh in the hearts of many Rwandans because of its uplifted prophetic lyrics.

The song lyrics captivated the whole congregation of more than 8000 people present in the concert; “Sing to the Lord a new song, for he is coming to do wonders in our land. By His right and Holy hand, who brought salvation to Rwanda. He remembered His mercy, He remembered his sincerity for the country of ours, Rwanda. All those at the end will see our salvation and say that Rwanda really has a God ”.
Together with all the public, Aime continues; “All you Rwandans stand up and sing, behold the Lord is coming He comes to us, He comes to take away our sorrow and to take away our sins, so let us find him and let Him refresh us... "

After its release on youtube on June 3, 2021, the song was well appreciated by people and brought back some nostalgy of the past where it was the first released as the song has been baptized by people as "RWANDAN GOSPEL NATIONAL ANTHEM SONG".

It is difficult to find in Rwanda a strong acapella band like the American Pentatonix that has made history around the world. Only, things are likely to change after a new band called the John316 Vocal Band decided to sing in this way (Of mostly vocals) but they also mix and sing including occasional musical instruments.

This acapella style in which they sing is a way to sing without any musical instruments but using their voices both as vocals and instrument sound.

The John316 Vocal Band is made up of 12 people including 6 girls and 6 boys who belong to different churches. Members of the group include Nyundo music scholars such as Peace Hoziyana who participated in East Africa Got Talent, Ntigurirwa Danny who calls himself Danny Country in music, and Iradukunda Annah who is already a student at the current Nyundo school in Muhanga.

Micomyiza Mpenzi told us in a live interview that the group name came during a worship fellowship they were in as a group and God gave them the scripture in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. ”

“You look at our name and see that it consists of a biblical verse. We were in prayer reading John 3:16 and we took John316. Our goal is to make a contribution to the Kingdom of God by telling people that Jesus heals, refreshes, and delivers. ”

The group began its operations in June 2020 last year. It has a variety of songs including ‘Jesus oh what a wonderful child, as its debut song, on April 7 this year they released “I see the light” to commemorate the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and now they have released “Perfect peace”. Of their three songs, they have already put out two Acapella-style songs.

They say they have a lot of songs already written and ready to be recorded that will be delivered to Rwandans in the days to come. Most of the Group songs are in Accapella Style.

The so-called 'Peace perfect peace' they put out recently is a song found in hymns from the Adventist book, made in two languages, Kinyarwanda and English, in conjunction with a little bit of the Total Praise song.
