Israël Mbonyi has become the only Rwandan artist competing at the Trace Awards and Festival, set to take place in Zanzibar in early 2025. He is nominated in the Best Gospel Artist category, where he faces stiff competition from Spirit of Praise 10 from South Africa, KS Bloom from Côte d'Ivoire, Mercy Chinwo and Ada Ehi from Nigeria, and Bella Kombo from Tanzania, who recently performed in Rwanda during the video shoot for Mudende Eddy Claude's new album.

This year, no Rwandan artist category is included, unlike the previous year when Trace Awards were hosted in Kigali, where Bruce Melodie won Best Artist of the Year in Rwanda. Despite this, Israël Mbonyi continues to shine, having had a successful year in 2024 with major performances across neighboring countries and Europe. His landmark Icyambu Live Concert at BK Arena further solidified his position in the Rwandan music scene. The Trace Awards will be held on February 26, 2025, with performances by Bruce Melodie and Harmonize.

Renowned gospel singer Alexis Dusabe will stage a concert to launch of his third album in a grand celebration of his 25-year anniversary in the ministry. The highly anticipated concert, dubbed “Umuyoboro Live: 25 Years of Grace and Talent,” will take place on August 3 at a yet-to-be confirmed venue.

Speaking to The New Times, Dusabe expressed his excitement about this milestone, revealing that his upcoming album features songs in four languages—Kinyarwanda, English, French, and Swahili. He noted that this project aligns perfectly with his vision of celebrating 25 years in gospel music, a journey that began in 2000 with his debut song, “Mfite Umukunzi Utuye Inyuma y’Ibicu.”

Dusabe has been actively working on his new album, both in audio and video production. He plans to release songs gradually ahead of the concert, which will be the highlight of his silver jubilee in gospel music. While he has yet to reveal the full lineup for the event, he will be the main headliner, aiming to sing a selection of songs that reflect his 25-year journey in the industry.

“I want this concert to be extraordinary—something unlike anything I’ve done before,” Dusabe stated. “It will be a moment of gratitude, celebration, and worship with gospel lovers.”

Expanding his reach

With a focus on regional and international expansion, Dusabe said that he is ready to embark on tours and welcomes invitations from gospel music enthusiasts across Africa and beyond.

He believes this upcoming concert will serve as a stepping-stone toward broadening his musical reach on the global stage.Dusabe will on February 25 release a new song, "Amavuta y’Igiciro," which is one of the songs on his new album.

Inspired by the biblical story of Mary anointing Jesus’ feet with precious oil, the song reflects themes of gratitude, surrender, and divine grace—elements that have defined his music over the years.

Renowned Rwandan gospel artist Chryso Ndasingwa has announced the launch of annual Easter celebration concerts, with the first edition set for April 20, 2025. In an exclusive interview with IGIHE, Chryso confirmed that these concerts will become a yearly tradition to honor the significance of Easter. “I want to establish an annual event dedicated to celebrating Easter,” he stated.

Following the tradition of Patient Bizimana’s ‘Easter Celebration’ concerts, which ended after he moved to the U.S., Chryso Ndasingwa now takes the lead in reviving these festive gatherings. Fresh from his historic sold-out concert at BK Arena in May 2024, Chryso continues to leave his mark on Rwanda’s gospel music scene. Gospel music saw a surge in popularity last year, with new artistes bringing fresh perspectives to the genre. Among my latest discoveries is Sylvie Simbi, a talented singer-songwriter crafting her sound from Italy while hoping to connect with listeners in Kigali—and, if all goes well, bring her music to a live audience there.

The New Times caught up with her to learn more about her journey and vision.

Can you tell us about yourself? Where were you born? What led you to gospel music?

I’m Sylvie Simbi, a singer and songwriter born and raised in Rome, Italy, to Rwandan parents. Music has always been a part of me—whether singing in church, at school or listening to records at home. It’s been my passion for as long as I can remember, and I truly believe it was my calling.

In 2011, I had the incredible opportunity to feature in an Italian song that topped the pop charts, followed by a tour where I experienced the thrill of performing before massive crowds.

After that, I took a step back to focus on my education and professional career. I hold an MBA from Oklahoma Christian University, an MSc in Finance and Financial Law from SOAS University of London, a Master in Economic Security, Geopolitics, and Intelligence from the United Nations Association of Italy, and a BSc in International Economics, Management, and Finance from Bocconi University.

I’m also a qualified lawyer, admitted to practice in England and Wales, and currently work with international organisations.

My journey has taken me across cities like Milan, Kigali, London, and Paris, but now I’m back in Rome, continuing to share God’s love through music. Last year, I released my first gospel single, “I Worship Only You,” and now I’m excited to unveil “This Is Love,” marking a new chapter in my musical path.

Gospel music speaks to the soul—it’s more than melodies and harmonies; it carries messages of faith, resilience, and hope. I’m drawn to music with purpose, and gospel embodies that in such a powerful and authentic way. It’s not just something I sing—it’s something I live, and through it, I hope to uplift and inspire.

How would you describe your sound, and what influences have shaped it?

I don’t limit myself to one particular influence because music is all connected. Each genre offers something unique—whether rhythm, melody, or message—and that diversity has shaped my approach. My sound is a fusion of different musical styles, reflecting my multicultural background and creative expression.

Exploring various sounds allows me to connect with people in different ways. My previous single, “I Worship Only You,” is a heartfelt ballad—intimate, emotive, and centered on pure worship. In contrast, “This Is Love” carries an energetic rhythm, bringing a joyful, uplifting vibe that makes you want to move while still delivering a spiritual message.

What message do you hope to share as you embark on this journey?

At its core, my music is about sharing God’s love. Every lyric and melody is meant to reflect His grace, faithfulness, and the hope that carries us through life’s challenges. Music speaks beyond words, and I want people to feel encouraged and reminded that no matter what they’re going through, they’re never alone.

My music is also a reflection of my spiritual journey. If even one person feels uplifted or strengthened through my songs, then I know I’m fulfilling my purpose. Whether through a soulful ballad or an upbeat track, the message remains the same: God’s love is for everyone, and it has the power to heal, restore, and transform lives. That’s the heart of my music.

What challenges have you faced so far as a new gospel artist?

Being an independent artist comes with its challenges, especially when it comes to financing my music. Without the support of a major label, every step—from production to promotion—falls on me. While songwriting and singing are natural and cost nothing, reaching a wider audience requires significant investment.

The gospel itself is free, but sharing it with the world takes resources.

Still, I trust that God, who led me to this journey, will also bring the right people to support and collaborate with me along the way. If my music resonates with you and you’d like to be part of this vision, I warmly welcome your support. You can connect with me on Instagram at @sylviesimbi or via email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Together, we can continue spreading the good news through music.

What can listeners expect from your first projects, and what are your hopes for the future?

Listeners can expect music that is authentic, heartfelt, and rooted in the Word of God. Every lyric is drawn from personal experiences, reflections, and a deep desire to connect with people on a spiritual level.

Looking ahead, I hope to grow—not just as an artist, but as a vessel of faith, reaching hearts across cultures and generations. No matter where this journey takes me, my focus remains on purpose and impact. If my songs can bring light to someone’s darkest moments, then I know I am walking in my calling.

One of my biggest dreams is to hold a concert in Rwanda—my motherland. It would be more than just a performance; it would be a homecoming, a celebration of culture, and a way to give back to the place that shaped my roots.

Renowned gospel artist Bosco Nshuti, known for his hit song "Ibyo Ntunze," is set to host a grand concert titled “Unconditional Love Live Concert Season 2”. This event will serve as the official launch for his fourth album, “Ndahiriwe”, and will take place on July 13, 2025. As part of his commitment to spreading the message of love and faith, Bosco Nshuti also plans to embark on an international tour to promote his new album.

In an interview with the media, Bosco Nshuti revealed that the concept for this concert originated from divine inspiration. He shared, “God placed it on my heart to tell the world about His unconditional love.” He emphasized that the concert aims to help attendees experience the love of Jesus Christ and understand the boundless love of God for all humanity.

Rwandan gospel sensation Josh Ishimwe has released a touching new song, originally composed as a heartfelt tribute to his mother. This soul-stirring track carries deep gratitude and admiration, perfectly expressed in its lyrics:

What can I compare you to?
To whom can I compare you?
Among the most beautiful beings that God has created on earth,
Mother, you are unique.

This song is an offering of thanksgiving, honoring the irreplaceable love and sacrifice of a mother. It resonates with anyone who cherishes the role of motherhood and the divine gift it represents. Josh’s signature style—rooted in traditional Rwandan rhythms—blends beautifully with his distinct gospel touch, making this track both nostalgic and spiritually uplifting.

Despite being a Pentecostal artist, Josh has gained recognition for his skillful remixes of Catholic hymns, incorporating them seamlessly into his unique gospel compositions. His versatility and deep respect for musical heritage have solidified his place as one of Rwanda’s most prominent gospel artists.

Josh Ishimwe’s latest release is now available on all major digital music platforms. Don't miss the opportunity to experience this beautiful tribute and embrace its heartfelt message of love and appreciation.

Aline Gahongayire, the celebrated gospel artist, has once again captivated audiences with her latest French single, "Le Feu". This powerful song beautifully intertwines themes from two of her well-known tracks, "Ndanyuzwe" and "Zahabu", creating a heartfelt anthem of faith, resilience, and restoration.

The Meaning Behind the Chorus:

À travers le feu, j’ai trouvé la vie,
Through the fire, I found new life.
Chaque blessure est devenue une mélodie.
Every scar has turned into a song.
Ce qui voulait me détruire m’a fortifié,
What was meant to break me made me stronger.
Je suis ici pour témoigner !
I am here to bear witness!
Par Sa grâce, je suis restauré,
By His grace, I am restored.
Un miracle vivant à proclamer !
A living miracle to declare!

Through these lyrics, Aline shares a message of triumph over trials, illustrating how God transforms pain into purpose. The fire symbolizes hardships, yet from it emerges renewal and a testimony of divine restoration. Her voice powerfully conveys gratitude and unwavering faith, making "Le Feu" a must-listen for gospel lovers.

The song is now available on all digital streaming and download platforms. It arrives just after the much-anticipated announcement of her upcoming Brussels concert on June 7, 2025, at Proximus, where she will perform alongside Josh Ishimwe. More details on this major event will follow soon.

Gospel artist Israel Mbonyi announced plans to perform in Kenya for a special end-of-year concert transitioning from 2024 to 2025. This will be his third performance in the country this year, following his August 10th appearance at the 'Africa Worship Experience' in Nairobi.

His hit song 'Nina Siri' has gained significant popularity, especially among Swahili speakers, unexpectedly becoming a major success despite Mbonyi's initial doubts. The song topped music charts, displacing previous hit songs and attracting widespread attention.

Mbonyi has been increasingly invited to perform in Kenya after the song's success. Notable Kenyan politicians and public figures have attended his performances. He plans to release his album 'Nk'umusirikare' and is scheduled to host his own concert on December 25, 2024, at BK Arena.

The artist reflects on the song's unexpected success and his growing popularity in the Swahili-speaking community, noting that only 2.97% of Rwandans speak Swahili, despite the language being one of the ten most spoken globally.
